Ford Motor Co. and PsiNaptic Inc. collaborate to bring Jini™ Networking Technology Capabilities to the automotive industry

DETROIT, MI and CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA - Ford Motor Company, and PsiNaptic Inc have collaborated to add JMatos to Ford Vehicle Consumer Services Interface (VCSI). PsiNaptic's JMatos™ adds the power of Jini Networking Technology to the Ford VCSI technology.

With a memory footprint of less than 100 kilobytes, JMatos enables Jini technology to be deployed on resource-constrained devices such as mobile phones, PDAs, automobile subsystems, medical monitoring equipment, home electronics, and industrial processors. JMatos, a licensed, fully compliant implementation of Sun Microsystems' Jini Networking Technology specification, does not rely on the Surrogate Architecture and does not assume the presence of a central server. It is a self-contained, completely portable Jini technology solution.

The integration of PsiNaptic's JMatos software with the Ford VCSI technology enables vehicles to form ad hoc networks with other devices such as cell phones, PDAs, entertainment devices, parking meters, and gas pumping machines, discover and exchange applications and information, and adapt to dynamic networked environments. As a result, future car buyers will have the ability for ongoing access to applications and information services tailored to their needs, preferences, and locations throughout the entire lifetime of their vehicle.

PsiNaptic's JMatos solution provides a very lightweight Jini implementation that cleared up some concerns we had about the feasibility of using Jini in the vehicle."
